Start from the workflow you already use

Open the comparison from the right place.

Use the main app for files, folders, and direct text. On iPhone and iPad, the share sheet is there for file-to-file checks. On Mac, Finder can become the entry point for monitored folders.

01

In the app

Choose two files or two folders, set the left and right sides, then compare.

02

From Files

On iPhone and iPad, select exactly two files and send them to WhatChanged through the share sheet.

03

From Finder

On Mac, compare inside WhatChanged or use the Finder workflow for items in monitored folders.

See the changes clearly

A report that keeps the review legible.

WhatChanged helps answer "what's different?" without turning the original files into a working area. Files, folders, and text stay read-only while the report separates the changes.

Report

Added, removed, modified, renamed

Folder reports keep the main change types together, including renamed items when they can be detected.

Text files

Unified or split text diff

Supported text files can be reviewed in unified and split views, with inserted, removed, and changed lines made clear.

Direct text

Compare pasted text

Direct Text Compare lets you paste or type text on both sides and compare without choosing files first.

Ignore noise, verify content

Use stricter checks only when the comparison calls for them.

Some differences matter. Some are expected. WhatChanged gives you a small set of controls for reducing routine noise and checking content more closely when needed.

Ignore rules

Filter expected differences

Ignore hidden items, extensions, names, and patterns when they are not part of the question.

SHA-256

Verify content when needed

Optional SHA-256 adds content-level verification, with caching for faster re-checks.

Text options

Quiet formatting-only changes

Ignore line endings and whitespace-only changes when the content review needs less noise.

Keep the result useful

A comparison can stay useful after the first pass.

Preview supported files

Open a supported file from the result when you need to inspect it before moving on.

Keep recent comparisons

Return to recent comparisons without rebuilding the same context from scratch.

Export or share reports

Keep a clear record when the result needs to be reviewed again or passed along.

Safe Merge

Make a new merged copy after comparing folders.

Safe Merge turns a completed folder comparison into a confirmed copy operation. You preview the plan first, choose how matching paths are handled, and keep the compared folders unchanged.

01

Preview before copying

After a completed folder comparison, review the merge plan, output folder, and safety notes before anything is created.

02

Choose the rule

Pick Newest, Oldest, Smallest, or Biggest to decide which same-path file is copied into the result.

03

Keep originals untouched

WhatChanged copies selected results into a new output folder, can add a README, and blocks unsafe destinations or overwrite risks.
